DevOps Exchange at DTX ft Upmind, Elastic, Roadmap.sh, Microsoft

That's a wrap! Huge thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday for the first of our two October events.

We were excited to return for the second consecutive year at this event, which draws hundreds of tech enthusiasts passionate about modern, cutting-edge technology, especially DevOps!At this event, we had the privilege of hearing not just three, but four impactful talks. The speakers included Sam Burns from Upmind, Jamie Tanna from Elastic, Dan Holdsworth from Roadmap.sh, and Liam Hampton from Microsoft.

Sam Burns, a Software Developer at Upmind, kicked off the event with an insightful talk on "staying ahead of the curve" in post-quantum cryptography. He covered the core principles of quantum cryptography, its historical context, and a detailed explanation of how it operates. Sam also shared examples of how post-quantum cryptography has been implemented in 2024, providing a comprehensive look at its cutting-edge applications.

Next, Jamie Tanna, Senior Software Engineer at Elastic, gave an in-depth talk on quantifying reliance on Open Source software using his 2023 project, "Dependency Management Data." This project enabled Jamie and his team to leverage data, and gain insights into their most-used languages and frameworks, identifying underused packages, and flagged dependencies running end-of-life software.

Jamie also demonstrated how others can implement this analysis using Open Source Software, by showcasing real data examples.

Dan Holdsworth from Roadmap.sh then shared with us his journey of transitioning from an Engineer into Management, including the transitional landscape and the skills involved during this period, the importance of retaining engineering talent and the mindset shift when moving into a management position (including how to redefine success!).

Last, but certainly not least, we welcomed Liam Hampton, Software Engineer and Senior Cloud Advocate from Microsoft who shared with us how to deploy applications, and scale them on Azure, using the Azure Developer CLI.

Liam ended his talk with a great live demo which took us through the open source tooling, best practises to use with solutions on how to reduce the steps you need to take as a developer when deploying your applications.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a special shout out to DTX for allowing us to (again) host another event within their incredible conference.

If you missed this event, we are hosting our next meet-up on Wednesday 16th October, which will be hosted by AWS in Shoreditch. The full agenda can be found here.

Stay up-to-date with future announcements by subscribing to our Meetup page.

We look forward to hopefully seeing you at our next event!
