DevOps Exchange August - Zopa, Jaguar Land Rover, Bark

DevOps Exchange London is back on the 29th August and this time will be hosted by Financial Services company, Zopa at their headquarters in London Bridge.


Mike Skaife from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is first up on stage and will share how they utilise DevOps methodologies and their cloud-native microservices platform to perform remote updates on a worldwide fleet of vehicles.


Next up we welcome to the stage Dan Kitchen from our hosts at Zopa. Dan will provide an insight into Zopa's utilisation of Packer for the construction of fortified golden images, including the driving forces behind this approach, obstacles encountered, and valuable takeaways.


Finally, we have George Gkirtsou, Head of DevOps at web-based services marketplace, Bark. George will address the difficulties associated with managing various iterations of architectures and will explain their seamless transition of workloads to Atlas without experiencing any downtime.


It'll be another great feast of DevOps including all of the latest trends and the opportunity to meet other like-minded people in the community.


Our usual format will be followed, with the 3 x 20 minute talks starting at 7pm.

"DevOps on Wheels - Continuous Deployment of Vehicle Software"


Discover how JLR utilise DevOps practices, and our cloud-native microservices platform, to update a global fleet of vehicles 'over the air'. Learn about the unique challenges of updating cars vs containers and how it's possible to use DevOps to repair and even improve a vehicle over its lifetime.


7:20pm: Dan Kitchen, Secure Operations Tech Lead @ Zopa

"Baking Hardened OS Images"


This talk will give an overview of how we use Packer at Zopa to build hardened golden images. In this talk we will also cover the motivations, process, challenges, and lessons learned on this project.


Bio: Dan has spent the last 8 years working in a mix of Infrastructure and SRE roles, across a range of sectors. Currently, he is building a Platform Security team at Zopa Bank, to drive improvements to their Infrastructure Security. His interests are in Kubernetes, Cybersecurity, Embedded Systems, Astronomy and Climbing. If you granted him a wish, it would be to take a ride on Carl Sagan's 'Spaceship of the Imagination'.


7:40pm: George Gkirtsou, Head of DevOps @ Bark

"How Platform Team quickly created Atlas, an Internal Developer Platform at Bark"


This talk will cover the challenges of running different versions of architectures and, how we moved workloads onto Atlas without downtime, our approach building an MVP, the speed we worked at, the technology components and what fast follow features are on our roadmap.


Bio: George Gkirtsou is the Head of Platform Engineering at Bark.com, with a background in Software Engineering and has experience in different business domains such as Advertising, Utilities, Security and Marketplace. He has experience managing teams across different time zones and currently running the Atlas programme while working with other Engineering functions to build a product that enables Engineering to go faster to production.
