Last week saw the DevOps Exchange London host the official afterparty event for the DevOpsDays Conference, sponsored by LinuxRecruit, GitLab and Adaptavist. We decided to mix up our usual format of individual talks and instead host a panel event consisting of 4 expert speakers focused around the popular topic of “The Future of DevOps: Emerging Trends and Controversies”. The panel, led by the fantastic Chris Jackson dived deep into the evolution of DevOps from past to present with all of our panel suggesting that the original definition of ‘DevOps’ has now taken legs and has actually evolved into something much bigger and complex than how it originated. The conversation then moved onto whether DevOps is actually dead and if we ever really did it properly in the first place, with our panel and host highlighting that an iterative approach to DevOps can be easy to overlook and although the primary goal in DevOps is to reach its journey and end destination there should be common goals within a team itself. The conversation ended with the topics of whether leaders in DevOps have gone cold, prompting that business priorities often favor faster approaches that yield revenue and while the purpose of DevOps is to break down silos, it's noted that it has sometimes led to more complexity in the sector instead. Overall this was an incredible event, with some super insightful conversation, so a big thank you to our panel; Rashi Saxena, Head of DevOps NAP @ WorldPay Christoph Leygraf, Channel Solutions Architect @ GitLab Jason Spriggs, Consulting Team Lead @ The Adaptavist Group Lubna Essa, Lead Product Engineer @ Wise ...our top-class host Chris Jackson for leading the event and to our incredible sponsors Gitlab, Adaptavist and LinuxRecruit for organising, the mountain of pizza and the free bar! If you missed the event, don't panic! The entire panel conversation was recorded and can be found here.
